'The Lost Tools of Learning' (1947)
...In Sayers's view '...although we often succeed in teaching our pupils "subjects," we fail lamentably on the whole in teaching them how to think: they learn everything, except the art of learning.' What is at stake for Sayers is the preservation of our intellectual freedom amid the complex pressures of modern society. She suggests that a rediscovery of the medieval system of education would supply a means of redressing the modern crisis facing education and learning.
